Matthew graduated from Davidson College in 2002 and went on to earn his law degree from Suffolk University in 2005. He was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 2005 and is licensed to practice in Massachusetts.
Attorney Kelley was hired as Assistant District Attorney in the Cape Islands District Attorney’s Office upon graduation from law school. During his distinguished career in the District Attorney’s Office Attorney, Kelley prosecuted cases in both the District and Superior Court. Matthew’s trial experience ranges from misdemeanors offenses such as Driving While Under the Influence of Alcohol (DUI), Traffic Violations, Larceny Offenses, Assault and Battery and simple narcotic offenses to the more serious felonies of Motor Vehicle Homicide, Rape, Armed Robbery and Trafficking in Narcotics. During his time in the District Attorney’s Office, Kelley prosecuted some of the Cape’s most high-profile criminal cases, presented matters to Grand Juries, led a Judicial Inquest and served as lead counsel on hundreds of criminal cases.
In 2009, Attorney Kelley was appointed Chief District Prosecutor for the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office. In that capacity, Kelley supervised the District Courts located in Falmouth, Barnstable, Orleans, Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. He conducted a nine- month training program with local police departments instructing officers on report writing and testifying in court, spoke at numerous community events, prosecuted major felonies in Superior Court, argued to the Appellate Division of the Superior Court and was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the District Attorney’s Office at the annual state wide Prosecutor’s conference.
Since departing from the District Attorney’s Office in 2011, Attorney Kelley has established himself as one of the best defense attorney’s in the region. Matthew has committed himself to providing his clients with the highest level of legal representation. Attorney Kelley has successfully defended clients charged with a variety of criminal matters from major felonies in Superior Court to motor vehicle infractions in District Court.
